Welcome to our Training Centre. We are located in Cambridge, Ontario, Canada. Our Spring
and Summer school programs are offered at the Hespeler Memorial Twin Pad Facility, while
the Fall and Winter programs are offered at the Preston Auditorium, Karl Homuth Arena and
the Hespeler Arena.
With the direction of the new owners, Cheryl Ann Huston, Carol Wheeler and Kevin Wheeler
we plan to continue the unique approach of team coaching. This team approach was
established by Mr Kerry Leitch, original owner of Champions Training Centre, in 1972.
Mr Leitch realized that as a skating coach, you needed to be knowledgeable in many different
areas to produce successful athletes. A staff of coaches
and consultants were developed to ensure that all aspects of our sport were being trained by
the best available people. Many of these talented coaches are still involved in our training
school. Each of these coaches play a very important role on our team and without them we
would not be able to produce National, International and World Athletes.
The Structure of the system is as follows:
Each skater who comes to our Training Centre is under the primary direction of a
specific coach. This coach is referred to as the Base Coach. The Base Coach is responsible for
the teaching of specific skills as prescribed by our established teaching
methodology. It is the responsibility of the Base Coach to direct the music
selections, the supervision of tests, and to take the lead in the direction of
the student's skating activities.
Kevin Wheeler will be the director of the pair teams. Carol Wheeler will be the director of the
singles competitive skaters and Cheryl Ann Huston will be the director for the Regional and
Recreational Programs. As directors, we are responsible for the implementation of all teaching
techniques, the determination of required additions to our coaching system and the planning, organizing,
leading and controlling in order to develop a much more focused attack on the athlete's
ultimate objectives.
We the owners are looking forward to this new endevour and with the support of the coaches, staff
skaters and parents we will strive to help the skaters achieve their personal goals.
We, the Staff of Champions Training Centre, believe very strongly in the
Lombardi theory, that winning is the most important thing, but winning is when
you have skated to the very best of your ability and can leave the ice with the
feeling that, for that moment, you could not have performed better. You're a
winner when you apply hard work, dedication, discipline and a touch of class to
your sport, and this effort will better prepare you for the rest of your
life.

it." |
